Interested in helping? BASWG encourages community members to get involved in protecting local waterways and reducing stormwater pollution. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available. BASWG brings together communities and organizations throughout the Greater Bangor area to improve water quality through collaborative stormwater management, public education, and community involvement.
There are many ways to be part of that work. Join a Street and Stream Cleanup, explore your community through the BASWG Outfall SignSearch, introduce students and families to stormwater education resources, or make simple changes at home that help prevent pollution from reaching local waterways.

Street and Stream Cleanup Events
Each year, BASWG members organize Street and Stream Cleanup events throughout communities in the Greater Bangor area. Volunteers work together to collect litter and debris before it can be carried by rain and melting snow into storm drains, streams, rivers, and other local waterways.
Events are typically held in late spring and summer, with each BASWG member organization scheduling activities based on the needs of its community.
Individuals, families, schools, community organizations, and businesses are encouraged to participate. It is an easy, hands-on way to make a visible difference in your community while helping protect local water quality.

Education and Awareness
Educators and parents can incorporate BASWG resources into classroom activities, environmental programs, or learning at home. BASWG offers educational tools that make it easier for children, families, educators, and community groups to learn where stormwater goes, how pollution reaches local waterways, and what everyone can do to help.
Explore interactive activities such as Stomp Out Pollution, watch educational videos, or visit the BASWG Media Library for content covering stormwater systems, pollution prevention, and the work happening throughout our communities.
Outfall SignSearch
Turn your next walk into a stormwater scavenger hunt with the BASWG Outfall SignSearch! BASWG has placed outfall signs throughout participating Greater Bangor communities to help residents discover where stormwater flows and how it ultimately reaches local streams, rivers, lakes, and ponds.
Find a sign, scan its QR code, and learn more about the surrounding watershed and stormwater system. You can also tell BASWG what you observe near the outfall, including litter, sediment, wildlife, weather conditions, and other activity.
Try finding the signs throughout your own community or challenge yourself to find them all. Along the way, you will gain a better understanding of the connection between our streets, storm drains, and local waterways.
Individual Action
Small actions can make a big difference! Everyday choices around your home and property matter. BASWG offers practical resources to help residents reduce runoff and prevent pollution throughout the year. Learn about rain gardens and rain barrels, responsible lawn care, fertilizer use, pet waste disposal, winter salt practices, planting buffers, water conservation, and other steps you can take around your property.
